How long do I have to bring a claim?
Standardly 3 months minus 1 day from the date of the event / last working day (EDT). Contacting ACAS Early Conciliation stops the clock (s.207B ERA 1996), and after the certificate you always have at least 1 month to file the ET1 form. Check your exact date in our free calculator.
Does filing at the Employment Tribunal cost anything?
No. Bringing a claim to the Employment Tribunal is free. You only pay for our documents and analysis, if you use them.
What is ACAS Early Conciliation?
A mandatory step before almost every claim: you report your case to ACAS (free, online) and a conciliator tries to settle it. Important: contacting ACAS stops the deadline clock. If you intend to claim — start right away at acas.org.uk.
My employer made me sign a resignation / settlement. Do I have to?
No. If you resign "voluntarily" or sign a settlement without understanding the consequences, you lose your claims. Before you sign anything — ask for time and check your rights. Settlements require the signature of an independent adviser (s.203 ERA), and the cost of advice is often covered by the employer.
Is my data safe?
Yes. You send documents directly to our email address and payments are handled by Stripe (a certified processor). We don't store data on any third-party servers and we never share it. Please note: what you write is not legally privileged — don't send more personal data than necessary.
Is this formal legal advice?
This is legal information and documents, not formal advice or representation. Where the law requires a lawyer's signature (e.g. settlement agreements) — we'll tell you and help you find a solicitor. The exact deadline and the strength of your claim can ultimately only be confirmed by a tribunal or a law firm.
